Shearers Strike

We learnt about the Shearers strike in 1891 and the story of what happened and why they protested.

Summary
In 1891, a large group of workers known as shearers, were responsible for gathering wool from sheep, so they decided to stop working. They did this because they wanted higher paies and good working conditions and justice overall. They thought that this would help the pastoralists realise that they needed fair pay and needed better working conditions.

Perspective A
Shearers were not earning enough money so they decided to go on a strike to demand for more stuff to help them. They stopped working for more money, they started protesting against pastoralists and fighting back the shearers were attacking or reasoning with people who go past the “line” which just means people that go to work are people who cross the line.

Perspective B
The pastoralists were losing money due to paying the shearers to much money because the demand of wool went down so they decreased the shearers pay which made them want to strike against the pastoralists, so if the shearer past the line the protesters would threaten or reason with each other to join the protest against the pastoralists and threatening the pastoralists. This made the land owners bring in the police to hopefully to stop the strike.

Overall
Over all at the end of the day the Shearers would have lost money if they left their job so they just started working again but some stopped working overall since they didn’t want to be paid very little from this job and because the pastoralists wouldn’t raise the pay and they called the police so they were forced to stop, but this still shows that as a union people are still strong.

Hone Tauwhare poem

For reading we have recored oursevles reading a 2 peoms or just 1 writtien by the famous Hone tuwahre who was famous for his peoms. In this tasks we allowed to work in a pair , group or even induvially. All of these peoms we have read revoles and is about the rain. I found this task inresting and enjoyable.

Procedural text

For this task it was challenge for creating our own dinosaurs with paper and a partner. There were 2 versions of the model and protoype. the protoype was a test version of our dinosaur. And the model was the final vesrion of our creation. As we contrusted our dinosaurs we used a paper to write incrousts on what we did along the way.

Once we finshed the protype we would on to the model using black paper and making it better then the prototype. I found this challenge very inresting and enjoyable because worked in partners and we had made our own dinosaurs.

Malala Yousafzai Once said…

We were tasked from our teacher to learn about Malala Yousafzai, we watched a video of her speech and her ideals on why all females people should have the rights to educate or be educated. Sadly, she was shot in the head by the taliban on the bus when she was going to school because they thought that would stop her, but Malala was more determined then ever and fought her way through and she says in her speech even if a gun was in her hand and the Taliban was in front of her she would not shoot him. She made a lot of powerful quotes of learning for example “The pen is Mightier than the sword” and also “One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world”.

Trip to Auckland War Memorial Museum

PBS had a school trip to the Auckland War Memorial Mueseum to learn more about volcanoes and the war that happened a long time ago, It happened term 3 week 4. We also did a activity when doing the volcano learning about what items we would pack in a bag if we only had 30 seconds to pack. Our group packed everything into the bag which would be handy but it would’ve made it more heavier and wouldn’t be a good choice. We also all had booklets to track all our information and whichever group had the best booklet then they got a prize on Friday. We also went to the WW1 memorial hall and we saw all of the names of the people who contributed in the war and were brave enough to protect our country with their lives. Lastly We went to the entrance and we packed up and left.

Paired Research Challenge

LI: to research questions about your dinosaur including their habitat, diet, predators, and protection.

We were tasked to make a Google slides about the dinosaur we got from our dinosaur eggs and research with our pair we chose.

The Triceratops is a herbivore, so its diet consists of plants for example seeds, fruits, leaves, twigs and roots, unlike normal herbivores the triceratops didn’t eat grass like modern herbivores. Did you also know that the habitat of the triceratops is inside of area’s  and its fossils were found in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, and parts of Canada, it’s habitats were in a mix of grasslands and forests.

The Triceratops is a whopping 3 in height and is 30 feet long and it wights from 6,000 kgs to 12,000 kg’s which in tons is 6 – 12 tons and that matches the african elephant weight. The Tyrannosaurus rex was the natural enemy of the Triceratops and the triceratops was one of the know dinosaurs that could kill a Tyrannosaurus rex, it relied on its bony frill and its 3 horns to be able to survive carnivorous attacks, scientist when examining the fossil of the Triceratops they found teeth makes of Tyrannosaurus rex’s carved into the bones of the Triceratops.

The way our dinosaur the triceratops protect themselves from predators was they would use there large 3 Horns as weapons to attack and defend themselves against predators and some fun facts is that Triceratops means “three horned face”, The Triceratops was found in the 1887 and that the Triceratops horns grew overtime.

Dinosaur eggs

LI: To understand how scientists discover, record and learn from fossils.

Our challenge was to become a palaeontologist who uncovered a rare dinosaur egg fossil. We used Adobe Express to reimagine what a real find might look like. After a quick research challenge about habitat we used that information to create our image.

My partner and I found the skeleton of a Tyranasourus rex. Did you know that the Tyranasourus rex means the “three horned face”.

Provocation

LI: To Imply and justify an opinion

I think that the apology from today (2021) was a good thing and it shows that they acknowledge the past (1970’s) and they apologized about the past so that it guarantees they will be no more public outcries and they would not have any rage building up from what they did in the past.

Mary anning

LI: To create a DLO that tells Mary Annings story from her perspective story.

Before we take part in our own dinosaur dig LS2 were challenged to capture the story behind Mary Anning, a pioneering fossil hunter and paleontologist during the early 19th century.

Mary anning  was born into a poor family, doubt that she still became one of the most well known Paleontologist world wide, she learnt about fossils and she found her first fossil when she was 12 and that was how she started her career, she sadly died at  1847 and was born at 1799 and the most recent fossil she found before her death was a Plesiosaurus and she was around her 20s.

Mary Anning was a little girl when she found her fossil which was a ichthyosaur where she found it 1811. Mary anning career was being a paleontologist. Her father and her found various types of fossils and she would’ve put them in the museum and would let people study them.

Fossils she found were Trace fossils are fossils are fossils that are the trails or footprints of the animals, what they ate and trails of the these prehistoric animals which is how paleontologists learn what were the dinosaurs diets. The normal fossils are the fossils of these ancient animals and it shows the history and the dinosaurs that ruled the lands then.

Trace fossils and normal fossils

LI: How to recognize different types of fossils and how they are formed.

Paleontologists are scientists who study fossils and they preserve these remains of ancient plants and animals. They dig fossils from the ground, examine them, and figure out what life was like millions of years ago. Their work helps us understand Earth’s history and how living things have changed  and adapted over time, then Paleontologists present these fossils into museums so that everyone can study these fossils.

Trace fossils are fossils are fossils that are the trails or footprints of the animals, what they ate and trails of the these prehistoric animals which is how paleontologists learn what were the dinosaurs diets. The normal fossils are the fossils of these ancient animals and it shows the history and the dinosaurs that ruled the lands then.
