Moment in time

We made a diorama and a Google video about a moment in time something happened in history, I chose to do balloonfest 86 in cleaveland in Ohio because it really caught my attention on how balloons broke a record but also how it caused a death of 2 people and were sued for millions later on.

Trip to Auckland War Memorial Museum

PBS had a school trip to the Auckland War Memorial Mueseum to learn more about volcanoes and the war that happened a long time ago, It happened term 3 week 4. We also did a activity when doing the volcano learning about what items we would pack in a bag if we only had 30 seconds to pack. Our group packed everything into the bag which would be handy but it would’ve made it more heavier and wouldn’t be a good choice. We also all had booklets to track all our information and whichever group had the best booklet then they got a prize on Friday. We also went to the WW1 memorial hall and we saw all of the names of the people who contributed in the war and were brave enough to protect our country with their lives. Lastly We went to the entrance and we packed up and left.

Paired Research Challenge

LI: to research questions about your dinosaur including their habitat, diet, predators, and protection.

We were tasked to make a Google slides about the dinosaur we got from our dinosaur eggs and research with our pair we chose.

The Triceratops is a herbivore, so its diet consists of plants for example seeds, fruits, leaves, twigs and roots, unlike normal herbivores the triceratops didn’t eat grass like modern herbivores. Did you also know that the habitat of the triceratops is inside of area’s  and its fossils were found in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, and parts of Canada, it’s habitats were in a mix of grasslands and forests.

The Triceratops is a whopping 3 in height and is 30 feet long and it wights from 6,000 kgs to 12,000 kg’s which in tons is 6 – 12 tons and that matches the african elephant weight. The Tyrannosaurus rex was the natural enemy of the Triceratops and the triceratops was one of the know dinosaurs that could kill a Tyrannosaurus rex, it relied on its bony frill and its 3 horns to be able to survive carnivorous attacks, scientist when examining the fossil of the Triceratops they found teeth makes of Tyrannosaurus rex’s carved into the bones of the Triceratops.

The way our dinosaur the triceratops protect themselves from predators was they would use there large 3 Horns as weapons to attack and defend themselves against predators and some fun facts is that Triceratops means “three horned face”, The Triceratops was found in the 1887 and that the Triceratops horns grew overtime.

Mary anning

LI: To create a DLO that tells Mary Annings story from her perspective story.

Before we take part in our own dinosaur dig LS2 were challenged to capture the story behind Mary Anning, a pioneering fossil hunter and paleontologist during the early 19th century.

Mary anning  was born into a poor family, doubt that she still became one of the most well known Paleontologist world wide, she learnt about fossils and she found her first fossil when she was 12 and that was how she started her career, she sadly died at  1847 and was born at 1799 and the most recent fossil she found before her death was a Plesiosaurus and she was around her 20s.

Mary Anning was a little girl when she found her fossil which was a ichthyosaur where she found it 1811. Mary anning career was being a paleontologist. Her father and her found various types of fossils and she would’ve put them in the museum and would let people study them.

Fossils she found were Trace fossils are fossils are fossils that are the trails or footprints of the animals, what they ate and trails of the these prehistoric animals which is how paleontologists learn what were the dinosaurs diets. The normal fossils are the fossils of these ancient animals and it shows the history and the dinosaurs that ruled the lands then.

Trace fossils and normal fossils

LI: How to recognize different types of fossils and how they are formed.

Paleontologists are scientists who study fossils and they preserve these remains of ancient plants and animals. They dig fossils from the ground, examine them, and figure out what life was like millions of years ago. Their work helps us understand Earth’s history and how living things have changed  and adapted over time, then Paleontologists present these fossils into museums so that everyone can study these fossils.

Why does Maungarei sleep? Pourquoi story

Why does Maungarei sleep?

It is told that long ago once there were guardians and their ancestors of the land and one of them were Maungarei, the humans would take strolls walks and even build on her, that started the roaming on Maungarei making her annoyed, she felt disrespected and thought the humans weren’t grateful for her protection, she got furious and explode in fury being woken from her slumber so she made war against the humans erupting into a fiery volcano destroying everything throughout and making her rage was so bad that she was was swallowing houses, people and villages and it developed a dark smokescreen of death.

But slowly she became lonely and after a long time no one was around. People never walked on her, talked to her or even cared. she became lonely…  her whanau never cared and so she stopped erupting and instead became from a fighter to a peaceful watcher scanning over everyone. They started to have talks, chatting, kids curious, and people still wondering the “Mystery” of why Maungarei erupted and stopped and became a peaceful observer, she was peaceful with the humans now and allowed her to be woken and when she was she would’ve chatted with the humans.

So people were no longer afraid, and scared so they all flourished and lived in harmony, and no one would be afraid of Maungarei. She swore that she would never erupt and will only peacefully gaze over the humans making sure everyone is safe and watching the kids playing and slowly watching people evolve and learn more and create more technology as she keeps her calm temper to herself.

Volcano Animation

LI: To Understand how a volcano erupts.

This week we were tasked to make a volcano eruption animation and how it works.

First we made a slide and traced or made our own volcano and used various types of shapes and colours to make the volcano, lava and smoke and other things.

Then we made the animation with lava flows and the earthquakes and the the lava flowing to the magma chamber and applying pressure to it then making a big explosion.

And finaly we made the final project and polishing it and fixing up then blogged what i’ve made.
